The EnviroScape® Waste Management (Landfill & Recycling) model helps people of all ages understand waste management practices of today and how landfills are designed to manage the long-term disposal of trash (solid waste) preventing harm to the ground, water, or air — in comparison to the old-style or illegal dumps.

Some Key Activities

Focus on Reduce | Reuse | Recyle First with Audience Participation Activities including: Can this be used again? Can this item be recycled? What is compostable? What could we use instead that will do less harm to our environment?

Rain is simulated on an active landfill cell on the model, so the audience can follow the flow of the rain through the solid waste.

The leachate is collected and then recirculated from the tanks back through the trash or transported from the tanks to a wastewater treatment plant.

Solid waste is represented with sponges and the leachate collection pumps are represented with an easy to use hand syringe.

A landfill cover is also provided to show how rain flows off the impermeable cover or "cap" to stormwater retention areas.

Recycling activity is provided, allowing audience to participate in determining what gets recycled and where certain trash should be placed.

Groundwater is shown and discussed using the groundwater well containers provided.

Recycle Activity Boxes (New!):
A great way to learn about recycling! Learn to Recycle Activity Boxes come with 6 boxes labeled with different types of recyclables ( Paper, Cardboard, Compost, Aluminum, and Glass). You place cute picture tiles into the miniature recycling bins, learning how to reduce, reuse and recycle. (48 tiles provided; 8 items to be recycled per each box.)

CONTENTS: The unit contains everything you need (but the water!) — Simple User's Guide, map and base, groundwater well containers, groundwater full color stickers, 2 well pumps, trays that represent main and back-up collection systems, trays that represent layers or lifts of trash, a hand pump (large syringe) for easy illustration of leachate collection systems, recycling center activity with boxes and cards including options for donation and compost, sponge pieces to represent trash, impermeable and permeable caps, garbage truck , trees, watercatcher, apartment building, weigh station, gas plant, straw (methane gas detection), house, wastewater treatment plant, recycling center building, labels, spray bottles (rainmakers), felt strips (for storm drainage ditches), rubber gloves, sponge, sample liner material and a convenient bag for small components.

Each model comes protected in its own foam padded shipping box that can be transported with a luggage cart. You have the option of purchasing the NEW Pre-production Carrying Case due out in mid-2013.
