Watershed explanations made easy

The Enviroscape watershed model is an instant attention getter for young children (and adults!). They want to know what it is and then the demo and education can begin. It's flexible, where we can demonstrate the mechanisms for stormwater pollution or interactive if you have a small group. We use for our annual DPW day, Brookline Day, classroom visits and special events. We like it a lot!

Great tool for tying watershed stewardship to salmon education!

We frequently use our watershed model to teach youth about the impact of their actions and how collectively we can make a difference. It's a very tangible tool with lots of different "stories" that can be curated for different messages. In our case as a salmon education organization, we are easily able to tie the model back to our core mission. Definitely recommend!

Hands-On Immersion with the EnviroScape Model

The EnviroScape model is a fantastic tool to teach students about our watersheds and source water protection. Allowing students to interact with the model helps deepen their understanding of the importance of being watershed stewards. We use our model in classrooms and at community events. It's a "grab-and-go" lesson, terrific for many age groups, and easy to transport and store in the carrying case.

Incredible tool for teaching about human impacts on watersheds

We have two enviroscapes and find them to be an incredible tool for teaching about human impacts on watersheds. We have used the models from pre-k through 5'th grade and it's interactive nature makes it an accessible learning tool for a variety of ages. We love teaching about water ecology, watersheds, and pollution with our enviroscapes!

Used at Community Markets and Children's Garden Club
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Jun 2, 2026
Our group uses the Enviroscape watershed model with young children at event in the community, such as "Seedy Saturday" and the community markets. We also use it once in the summer season of the Children's Garden Club. Children enjoy taking turns spreading the pollutants and watching them melt into the village's lake. Since the groups are of various ages, discussion is unpredicatble. It is a small community, so children may have interacted with the Enviroscape before, but they express satisfaction at a repeat opportunity. I believe the local elementary schools have access to another Enviroscape watershed model, perhaps through the Regional District environmental education programme, or through a model purchased by the School District. Note that drink crystals are no longer available in small packages, so we use "Jello" crystals instead. So far, they have not stained the plastic models.

A Great Tool

The enviroscape is so helpful for us in our outreach efforts to educate students on protecting our local waterways. We have been able to spread the word of stormwater management with our campus community and this model gives us a strong visual to do so!

I use 2 of these models during our "Conservation Days" for local 3rd and 4th grade students. 800+ students are exposed to it every year! I also use them at other events, like county fairs and include the ground water tray and talk about how some thing contaminants can get there through unplugged wells.

I have used the Enviroscape for several years and with just the Watershed model, you can do so much and show so much. I have used it in three different states, with completely different ecosystems, and the one Enviroscape has worked for them all. Very versatile, easy to use whether you are using their activities or those that are created for your own situation.

Your model is a magnet ... the kids 'get it' and become the advocates at home.

When trying to educate the public (which is part of our MS4 permit responsibility) we are lucky if a few adults stop by and talk about stormwater. Most folks are busy and give you only a few-second look-see. When we use your model it attracts the kids for 10 minutes or more, and you get the parents as a bonus. We are finding that the kids 'get it' and become the advocates at home. Also, other (non-parent) adults pay closer attention to see what is happening. Your model is a magnet. What you and your colleagues do is making a difference in the world. Thank you.

This watershed model is one of my absolute favorite teaching tools. We use this at our youth camp for ages 5-14 and each age LOVES this model. There have been countless moments where something we've discussed on the model was seen within our own community and the children were the ones who identified it. It's worth it. Cleaning is really quick and easy - it's never taken more than 15 minutes and the reusable buffers last quite a long time. If you have a non-profit, give them a call to get ideas on sponsorship for one!

I have been using the Watershed/NPS Source model for outreach at Marshall University for a few years now. The kids love it! They love it so much, in fact, that some of the small pieces have begun to disappear. Do you sell a replacement package for the items that sit on top of the table? Yes, we do ... https://www.enviroscapes.com/category/replacement-parts

Great demonstration for E-Week for over a decade!

Our ASCE Pittsburgh Section has used the Watershed/Nonpoint Source Model for over a decade as part of our Engineers Week and other educational outreach activities and events. We are now looking to invest in additional models (reason that I bumped into this website). Great to see this is still possible: *highly* recommend this model for young - and older - audiences.

Used the watershed model to teach the efficacy of green infrastructure to manage stormwater, plus so much more!
Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Review star icon Mar 1, 2019
The arrival of the Watershed Enviroscape generated much excitement for us--we put it to use on Feb. 23 at a community water teach-in. Thanks for the quality product and its effectiveness. This watershed model is so much like our Western Lake Erie Basin of Northwest Ohio--and portrays the very problems with which we are dealing. Although two other agencies close to us willingly lend us their Enviroscapes, having one of our own makes it possible for us to give lessons during the school day for the four schools in our neighborhood. Adults enjoy hands-on activities as well. We used the watershed model during education sessions in our low-income community to teach the efficacy of green infrastructure to manage stormwater. This resulted in the installations of two large bio-cells which now prevent intersection, yard, and basement flooding in a 13 block area.

Picture is Worth a Thousand Words - A Model is Worth Even More

I'm really looking forward to using the model for the STEM4GIRLS talk! As a stormwater engineer with over 33 years of experience in municipal stormwater systems, I can attest to the power of the EnviroScape watershed model. Half the battle of gaining public support for water quality protection is explaining the problem in understandable terms. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. A model is worth even more.
